The Big Mac, an iconic burger that debuted in the late '60s, has ingrained its list of components into our minds, thanks to the hit jingle that goes a little like this: "Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and a sesame seed bun." This is my stab at making a copycat version of the classic at home: “I’m lovin’ it,” and I know you will too! The best part? Don’t love pickles? Want a different kind of cheese? Prefer lettuce wraps to a bun? With a copycat, you can “have it your way” (including using whichever fast food jingles you want 😉!).

Utensils
1 frying pan 1 plate 2 bowls
Ingredients for 4 parts
- 0.50 onion
- 2 tea s. sunflower oil
- 80 ml. big mac sauce allergen !
- 4 minced beef steak 20% fat
- 4 burger buns allergen !
- 100 g. pickled gherkins
- 120 g. cheddar slices allergen !
- 120 g. iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Pull the beef out of the fridge to get it close to room temp while you're making the Big Mac sauce.
- In a small bowl, cover onion with cold water
- set aside until ready to use.
- Form beef into 8 patties about 1" wider than buns
- season all over with salt and pepper.
- In a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Working in batches, cook buns cut side down, adding more oil if needed and watching closely, until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Transfer buns to a cutting board.
- In same skillet over medium-high heat, cook 4 patties, flipping halfway through, until well browned, 1 to 2 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with remaining patties.
- Drain reserved onions and spread on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Spread some Big Mac sauce across bottom bun. Top with a slice of cheese, some onions, lettuce, 3 pickles, and a burger patty. Top with a second bottom bun, more Big Mac sauce, onions, lettuce, and 3 pickles. Top with a second burger patty. Close with top bun. Repeat to make 3 more burgers.
